General Tips for Your Teen

To cleanse an acne-prone face, gently wash it twice a day. Rinse well with warm water and pat dry with a clean soft towel. Do not scrub with a washcloth or use harsh, high pH soaps or abrasive cleansers. Too much friction can worsen acne. A mild calendula soap is fine. Avoid over washing your face since this can make it dry and irritated. Skin must maintain the proper pH levels to be healthy.
Beware of skin products that contain chemical preservatives, fragrance or coloring agents. These chemicals can make the problem worse. If using cosmetics, use water-based, oil-free foundations sparingly and wash off thoroughly before going to bed. Check for noncomedogenic, or nonacnegenic ingredients that are not likely to cause or aggravate acne. Use a nonscented
moisturizer. When skin is dry, it produces more oil and the oil is more likely to become trapped in pores.
ZenMed Herbal Cleansing System I recently found the ZenMed system, a product that is designed to treat the problem at its source, using the finest herbal ingredients. I highly recommend
this system since it is formulated with natural ingredients that have been proven over centuries to heal skin problems such as acne, and promote a healthy, clear complexion from the inside. This skin care system prevents and treats acne both internally and topically and provides lasting results. I know the ZenMed system works to heal acne. I suffered from severe acne as a teen and used many medications and harsh treatments, including long-term antibiotics, Accutane, and many toxic topical products. I didn’t know any better
as a teen and thought these medications and products would work. They did not and the long-term antibiotics devastated my immune system. The acne continued into my adult years, and I am very happy to have found the ZENMED Derma Cleanse System. It cleared the acne that I had been struggling with for 35 years after using it for only 3 weeks! It really works! It has the best, natural,
non-toxic ingredients, and I am thrilled to recommend it to parents for helping their teens clear their skin. Acne can be devastating to a teen’s self-image and must be treated holistically with safe, natural ingredients.

How Breast Milk Is Made?

If you’ve ever been pregnant or if you are pregnant now, you’ve probably noticed a metamorphosis in your bra cups. The physical changes (tender, swollen breasts) may be one of the earliest clues that you have conceived. Many experts believe that the color change in the areola may also be helpful when it comes to breast feeding.

What’s going on?

Perhaps what’s even more remarkable than visible changes are the extensive changes that are taking place inside of your breasts. The developing placenta stimulates the release of estrogen and progesterone, which will in turn stimulate the complex biological system that helps to make lactation possible.

Before you get pregnant, a combination of supportive tissue, milk glands, and fat make up the larger portions of your breasts. The fact is your newly swollen breasts have been preparing for your pregnancy since you were in your mother’s womb! When you were born, your main milk ducts had already formed. Your mammary glands stayed quiet until you reached puberty, when a flood of the female hormone estrogen caused them to grow and also to swell. During pregnancy, those glands will kick into high gear.

Before your baby arrives, glandular tissue has replaced a majority of the fat cells and accounts for your bigger than before breasts. Each breast may actually get as much as 1 ½ pounds heavier than before! Nestled among the fatty cells and glandular tissue is an intricate network of channels or canals known as the milk ducts. The pregnancy hormones will cause these ducts to increase in both number and size, with the ducts branching off into smaller canals near the chest wall known as ductules.

At the end of each duct is a cluster of smaller sacs known as alveoli. The cluster of alveoli is known as a lobule, while a cluster of lobule is known as a lobe. Each breast will contain around 15 – 20 lobes, with one milk duct for every lobe. The milk is produced inside of the alveoli, which is surrounded by tiny muscles that squeeze the glands and help to push the milk out into the ductules. Those ductules will lead to a bigger duct that widens into a milk pool directly below the areola.
The milk pools will act as reservoirs that hold the milk until your baby sucks it through the tiny openings in your nipples. Mother Nature is so smart that your milk duct system will become fully developed around the time of your second trimester, so you can properly breast feed your baby even if he or she arrives earlier than you are anticipating.

Placebo Effect

Have you ever been cured for any disease or health related problems by any suggestion provided by the nearest or the dearest or the most trustworthy around you? Incase, if you had been, then, congrats. Convey my wishes to them. But the fact is split into two here. First, is that the suggestion or solution mite be an outcome or result of their own experiences. The other, is that it mite a word of mouth solution passed down from our predecessors. The reason is that we never care about these facts when our problem is cured. But when it doesn’t, then we arrive at a conclusion that someone has played a prank at you, at the cost of your health.
A placebo effect is termed as an effect that is a result of a notion perceived even before the cure is provided, making us believe or trust the cure provided that it would work for sure. You have a headache, and your girlfriend tells you to take some rest for a while after having lunch, promising that you would be fine when you wake up. And as it is a suggestion of the most loved one, you sleep without any further questions. And a kiss on the forehead, then black-out. Later in the evening, you feel no pain when you get out of the bed. You feel brisk and ready for a party. And you are forced to believe that the sleep suggested by your girlfriend has done the magic. But the real fact could have been, the sleep would have acted only as a catalyst to the cure. Where the real headache would have been cured by the lunch and the mid day hunger would have caused headache. So the placebo effect here is the belief that your headache had been cured by the sleep suggested by your girlfriend. So the next time when you have a headache, listen to your mother and eat your breakfast and your lunch. Listen to your girlfriend only when she would be kissing your forehead!!!!

Be aware of Swine Flu!

Swine Flu has been the recent buzz of the days. It is spreading at a very faster rate to nook and corner of every country across the globe. All of us should gear up before it is too late for us to realize the pathetic state Swine Flu could leave us in. Swine Flu has taken its roots from Mexico and most of the deaths related to Swine Flu Fever have been reported in Mexico. From there, it has already started spreading to Canada and US where mild cases of Swine Flu fever have been reported.
Swine Flu virus gets adapted easily and spreads rapidly. Scientists from Canada have discovered the genome of the H1N1 virus which might help in understanding of how this virus causes this dreadful disease. Young People are easily prone to this Swine Flu virus. Many young people in Japan have been suffering due to this virus. Obesity is another attractive factor for this virus to dwell in. The WHO says that the developing countries are susceptible to this virus. Even thawed pig meat is expected to be the silent carriers of this virus. It is better to avoid eating pig meat as food. As this virus keeps adapting, the existing vaccines do not help much. Lets us realize the importance of personal hygiene and stay away from the invasion of this virus.

Causes of Acne

Most dermatologists will tell you the exact cause is unknown, probably because there is not any one cause that can be determined for everyone. We know how acne develops, but there are many factors that can cause this development to take place. In teens, a major factor is the change in hormones that affect the sebaceous glands. But what is it that causes some teens to have severe acne while others have very mild, occasional acne and others have clear skin? Like
many health problems, the specific causes of acne are multifaceted and can be different for each person. Heredity is known to be a factor in acne. If you had acne as a teen, your child may also be susceptible. Diet, hormonal imbalance, or nervous system disorders can cause a person to be acne-prone. Premenstrual acne starts a few days before each period, when progesterone hormones are highest. Allergies to
molds, foods, chemicals, cosmetics, and other substances can result in acne.
Medications that can cause acne include dilantin, lithium, isoniazid, iodine, steroids, and some birth control pills. In severe cases, candida-yeast overgrowth, toxic bowel, liver dysfunction and thyroid, gonadal or adrenal disorders should be looked into .

Fighting blood cholestrol

Today virtually everyone has heard of the dangers of high blood cholesterol. Walking probably won’t do much to lower overall blood cholesterol level. But it may do something just as important: raise your high-density lipo protein cholesterol. High HDL levels are associated with a lower risk of heart disease.
Walking may even protect against heart disease despite stubbornly high cholesterol levels, at least in men. In the Institute of Aerobic Research study, men with high overall cholesterol who scored in the top two fitness levels had less than half the risk of death of men with low overall cholesterol who scored in the lowest fitness level. In other words, even low cholesterol provides less heart disease protection if you are unfit.
The walking prescription for raising protective HDL levels is the same as that for lowering heart disease risks. If you are hypertensive, don’t use hand weights to increase your walking workout. Exercising your leg muscles won’t raise your blood pressure significantly during exercise. But additional exercise of the smaller muscles in your arms can raise your blood pressure, sometimes to dangerous levels. If you are taking any antihypertensive medication, talk with your doctor before beginning a walking program or other exercise. There are many different types of blood pressure medication, so find out from your physician the particular side effects or warning signs to watch for in your case. And set up a regular schedule of visits to monitor your progress. Don’t change the dosage of your medicines without your doctor’s approval. Walking up even relatively steep grades should cause you no harm. But take it slowly at first and use common sense.

How Acne Develops

Acne occurs when the hair follicles (pores) of the skin become clogged with sebum, bacteria and dead skin cells. Sebum is an oily substance produced by the sebaceous (oil) glands. Its purpose is to lubricate the skin and hair .Normally, sebum moves through the follicles and is discharged on to the surface of the skin .

During puberty (about age 11 to 14) and throughout the teen years, increased levels of androgen hormones stimulate the sebaceous glands to grow and produce more sebum. When there is excess sebum production, the follicle can become plugged. Also during puberty, the skin cells of the follicle lining shed more quickly and can form sticky clumps. Bacteria and dead skin cells can combine with the sebum in the clogged pore.
One type of bacteria specifically involved in acne is Proprionibacterium acnes (P. acnes). Everyone has P. acnes living in their skin; even people who don’t have acne. P. acnes ingests the sebum that is discharged to the skin. However, when sebaceous glands are clogged with sebum, the P. acnes multiply quickly and break the sebum down into irritating fatty acids that cause an immune response. Inflammation is the result, with redness, swelling, and pain. Another type of bacteria that can be a factor in acne is corynebacterium acnes. This
bacteria can cause skin fats to break down into irritating chemicals that can also lead to acne.

Ginger can do wonders to a diseased person. It is one of the best available medicines gifted to us by nature. Let’s go ahead and explore the medicinal benefits of this small sized herb. This spice is known in India since ages. It is used by our ancestors for multiple purposes. No Indian dish is prepared without ginger in place. Ginger helps in digestion of the food. It stimulates the production of saliva and other salivary fluids and thereby cures the problem of indigestion. Other health problems like gas pains, stomach cramping and dysentery.
Motion sickness that happens in the morning can be handled effectively with the use of ginger. It possesses anti inflammatory properties and so helps reducing the inflammation that happens with other diseases. It improves the blood circulation within the body. It cleanses the bowels and kidneys. It removes the toxins and unwanted wastes from the body. It gives glow to the skin. Asthma and other respiratory problems can be addressed with a small piece of ginger. It can bring down the temperature of a feverish person. NON TOXIC BUG REPELLANTS

If you find that bugs or insects are feeding on your children, be careful that the toxic “solution” does not put your children at greater health risk than the problem. Many of the bug or insect repellent sprays, lotions or liquids that are used on children to repel ticks, mosquitos or other insects contain Permethrin and/or N,Ndiethyl-m-toluamide, commonly called DEET.
DEET is a toxic compound, partially absorbed into the bloodstream, and associated with dermal and neurological reactions. Several cases of toxic encephalopathy (brain damage) associated with the use of DEET in children have been reported in the medical literature. Generalized seizures have also been temporally associated with the use of DEET.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) made a Re-registration Eligibility Decision (RED) for DEET in late 1998, but with this decision, the EPA will not re-register DEET products marketed specifically at children, claiming them to be misleading. Due to their alcohol base, these low percentage DEET formulas may actually increase absorption into the bloodstream, especially when reapplied frequently to increase effectiveness. The EPA expressed concern about the fact that DEET is widely used, is one of the few registered pesticides applied directly to human skin and is potentially related to seizure incidents. As a result, the RED calls for stronger label warnings and restrictions that are protective of children and others who are sensitive to chemical substances.
Permethrin is a synthetic contact insecticide, causing nervous system toxicity that leads to the death of the insect. It is said to have low toxicity in mammals, and is poorly absorbed through the skin. However, it’s wise to stay away from any synthetic pesticide, especially when there are safe alternatives to do the job.

Lavender Oil

Lavender has strong antibiotic, analgesic, antiviral, antifungal, antispasmodic , and sedative properties. It is a non-toxic antiseptic and works well on cuts, wounds, dermatitis, eczema, diaper rash, pimples and burns. Lavender repels mosquitoes and can give relief to bug bites.

Apply lavender oil to a minor burn after plunging it into cold water. Lavender or chamomile essential oils can be added to a bath to soothe a minor sunburn.
